The Egg
I stand by this piece being the reason I am where I am today. I titled it The Egg because I really just wanted to try out a more illustrative style without thinking too much into it. This piece precedes all of the other alcohol marker pieces and is really the inspiration for me to pick up the medium.
What makes this piece so special is the fact that there are so many personal elements in it. One of my best friends is the main subject of it, it is in an illustrative style which I love, and it is supposed to be looked at like a manga (left to right). Each panel is of the same background although the bottom two start to zoom in as the “story” progresses. I use the word story loosely when describing this piece because it just shows a tree with an egg, a girl looking up at the egg, the girl holding the egg in her hands, and the egg hatching in her hands as a chicken. The memories I derive from this piece when I look at it are ones of nostalgia and longing to go back to this time. I also associate my work with smells and this one especially smells of autumn and reminds me of the weather cooling down. The process of creating this was especially grueling because I had no idea what I was doing and it was probably my most ambitious project yet at the time.
